Stellenbosch Coach Steve Barker says he will take positives from their loss against Black Leopards over the weekend into their Nedbank Cup last 32 encounter against Maritzburg United.
Stellies host Maritzburg United at Athlone Stadium on Friday night. Kick-off is at 20:00.
“I think we were unlucky to at least not walk away with a point. The boys showed great character to get back into the game, it’s just unfortunate we couldn’t see the game through.” Barker said.
Barker welcomes a break from the league matches.
“It’s always nice to have a break from the league, especially when it’s been a tough season and still is a tough season. It’s always nice to play in the cup as well, it takes five games to get to the final, so we’re looking to have a good cup run. It also affords the opportunity to rotate some of the players and gives an opportunity for other players as well.
“There’s no reason why we can’t dream and get to the final of the cup, so that is an objective of ours,” Barker said.
With the acquisition of two new signings in the past week Stellies have begun to seriously bolster their squad. Both players are CAF Champions League winners.
Stellies’ new January signings Nathan Sinkala and Asavela Mbekile could make their debut against Maritzburg.
