Olde Riekerink – We have more than 11 good players

Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink says he does not believe that the five-substitutes rule benefits teams like his next opponent, Mamelodi Sundowns with arguably better depth more than other teams in the DSTV Premiership.

There has been a lot of debate about how the new five-substitutes rule seems to benefit teams like Sundowns as they are able to make extra five substitutes without dropping the quality.

Coach Riekerink believes his team has more than 11 quality players to can also make five substitutions without compromising the quality.

“To be honest, I haven’t thought about it and if I look in my team we have more than 11 good players. We also have an opportunity to change or try something different.

“The best 11 from every team will play and most of the time, at least until halftime or 60 minutes you best team is playing. Of course if your more players or your squad is bigger‚ but five substitutions are five.

“I trust that we have enough quality players outside of the starting 11 because it is always difficult to leave players out.” Riekerink said.

City play Sundowns tomorrow night at Cape Town Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:30.
