UWC FC Head Coach Thinasonke Mbuli says her players “will be up for it” when they come up against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the SAFA National Women’s League (SNWL) match on Sunday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

UWC will go into the game as an underdog after losing both home and away fixtures in the last edition of SNWL but coach Mbuli believes a good start might be all they need if they’re to get something from the game.
“I was really pleased with the response in the second fixture against Thunderbirds [following the opening round draw against TUT], I want us to take that belief and positivity into the Sundowns game. Yes, there’s pressure on both teams because they need to maintain their winning ways. No doubt it’s going to be an intriguing battle and I’m sure the girls will be up for it,” Mbuli told UWC website.
Mbuli, who is also a Banyana Banyana assistant coach, has worked with most of the players in the Sundowns team and might have a bit of insight in terms of what to expect come 15:00 kickoff time.
Sundowns will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the season after winning both their opening two games, a 4-0 home win over Golden Ladies and a 3-1 away win to Durban Ladies. On the other hand, UWC will be looking to maintain their winning momentum after a 1-0 home win against Thunderbirds Ladies in their last game, their first game ended in a 2-2 draw away to TUT.
